Revelation 19

Journey Through The Bible
 Old Testament Reading:
Jeremiah 7-9
 New Testament Reading: Revelation 19

Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war. His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a name written that no one knows except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. A sharp sword came from his mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: King of Kings and Lord of Lords (Revelation 19:11-16).

This rider on the white horse is none other than Jesus Christ, the Faithful and True. We should not confuse this with the white horse and rider, the first of the four horsemen in chapter 6, who is the imposter, the antichrist.

When the sixth Bowl was poured out, demonic spirits from the dragon travel to the kings of the whole world to assemble them for the battle on the great day of God, the Almighty. … They assembled the kings at the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon (Rev 16:14&16).

Now, in chapter 19, they are prepared for the great Battle of Armageddon. John saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and against his army (v19). But Jesus had other plans! There is no battle. John’s account includes no fight scene, no battle for victory.

An angel standing on the sun called all the birds of the air together for the great supper of God (v17-18). You may have noticed that none of the seven Seal Judgements, the seven Trumpet Judgements, nor the seven Bowl Judgements, affected or destroyed the birds of the air. God had other plans for them.

The Son of God, King of Kings, faithful and true, defeats His foes with the sword of His mouth. His heavenly army of holy saints and powerful angels do not lift a finger. By the spoken Word of God, all creation came into being, and now by the spoken Word of Jesus, His enemies are defeated and become supper for the birds of the air that the angel has gathered. You might say that Jesus fouled up their plans with the fowl of the air.

The beast and false prophet are taken prisoner and thrown alive into the Lake of Fire. They become the first inhabitants of hell. Satan will follow 1,000 years later and joined by all whose names are not written in the book of life (Rev 20:10-15).

It is no wonder the multitude of saints will sing Hallelujah, because our Lord God, the Almighty, reigns! Let us be glad, rejoice, and give Him glory (v6-7). Today, believers can sing this song even now because we know Satan will be defeated. We know that death will be swallowed up in victory. We know right now that the Lord Jesus, the Lamb, is the conquering Lion of Judah who will righteously judge and wage war. Someday, we will take part in that heavenly hallelujah chorus, but for now, we can rejoice and give God glory knowing what He promised to take place. God is faithful and all His promises are true.
